Fire investigators reportedly believe a vape pen explosion could have been the cause of a recent death in St. Petersburg, Florida.

A report by the U.S. Fire Administration says that in a sixteen year span, there were nearly 200 reported explosions of vape pens. But no one died.

We caught up with a vape pen expert at The King Of Vape in Fort Myers to learn about the dangers of vape pens and how to figure out if yours is in danger of overheating.

“It’s all about knowing how to properly use your vape pen,” said Rick Marsten.

Marsten said the pens don’t explode out of the blue.

“They usually explode because of human error,” he explained.

Some of those errors, according to the Food and Drug Administration, include the ways people charge their vape pens. Users are supposed to use the charger that came with the device; not a phone or tablet charger.

It’s also important to replace the battery when it gets wet or damaged.
